About

A one-person field recording project from Almaty

Who records these sounds

Nomad Echo is run by one field recordist based in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Every sound on this site and on the Nomad Echo YouTube channel was recorded in person, mostly in the Tian Shan mountains above the city (the Ile Alatau range) and on the shores of the Kapchagay reservoir. Some rain recordings are made from a window at home.

The project started from a simple frustration: many "nature sounds for sleep" are generated, heavily processed or looped from a few seconds of audio. We wanted to publish real recordings and show the numbers behind them.

How the recordings are made

Photos and behind-the-scenes clips from the sessions are on the field notes page.

How this site is written

The audio is never AI-generated. The articles are written with the help of an AI writing assistant, working only from our own recordings, measurements, photos and notes, and checked before publishing. Medical statements are limited to what published research supports, and each health article links to its sources.

Medical note

We are sound recordists, not doctors or audiologists. Nothing on this site is medical advice. If your tinnitus is new, changes suddenly, or affects one ear only, please see a doctor or audiologist.
